Typical Morning Routine as a Mom

Hello friends!! So I recently got a request to share my morning and night routines with my little man, so I’ll start here with my morning routine!

I’d like to say I’m one of those moms that gets up before Basil for me-time or exercises all the time and has a super healthy meal plan and all that, but I’m not at all. Not even close. We follow a very loose schedule and I mostly just like to go with the flow as long as I can get what I need to done and I get time to play with Basil. In all honesty, we don’t get up and going the same time everyday – it really just depends on how we both slept during the night.

Between 5-6am

So (almost) every morning, Basil wakes up between 5-6am for a feeding. Lately, he’s been waking up closer to 6am which has been nice because that’s about the time Michael has to get up for school anyway. So he usually eats about 5-6oz and I’ll change his diaper, then he snuggles in bed with me (if I haven’t already let him come into our bed) until he wakes back up.

2-3 hours later

Some days it’s around 7:30am others it’s between 9am and 10am, we get up and change his diaper then go eat breakfast. He’ll have some kind of cereal (rice or oatmeal) mixed with fruit, and another 5-6oz bottle. I like to have him eat in just a diaper cause he has a habit of smearing his food all over his hands and touching his clothes and I’m not about that stained outfit life! The last few days he’s been sucking on his thumb between bites of food and it’s the cutest thing ever!

After breakfast

After he eats breakfast I get him into a clean diaper and outfit and get him in his tummy to play with toys and entertain himself while I do some chores and/or shower. We have all hardwood floors so I either get him set up on our bed with a wall of pillows around him or I set up his rainbow foam mat on the floor and put a baby gate in the doorway so the dogs don’t step on him. He usually lasts like this for about an hour and a half to two hours before getting fussy and either wanting more food, to be held, or a nap.

After food and/or being held

Nap time! So regardless of what time we actually make it out of bed to start our day, generally by 11:30-12:00pm Basil is ready for a nap! How easily he goes down is another story… lately he’s been fighting his naps pretty hard no matter how tired he is, but once he finally gets to sleep, he’ll stay asleep anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half. Our days go a lot more smoothly when he sleeps longer, but I’ll take what I can get when it comes to sleep the last few weeks!

Keep in mind that there are of course those days that we have appointments or just need a lazy day so this schedule changes or is even more loose. Basically as long as Basil is eating three solid food meals a day and a few extra bottles here and there is all I care about. I know this type of schedule may not work for everyone – especially you working mamas out there – but it works for us, and that’s all that matters!

I hope this was helpful to some mamas out there! I’ve always liked seeing other people’s daily routines, so hopefully, it was at least a little entertaining!

Stay tuned for my night routine and in the meantime, you can sign up for notifications to be the first to know when new blog posts are up!
